What is the baby bar?
The baby bar, more formally known as the First-Year Law Students’ Examination (FYLSE), is administrated in California twice per calendar year (June and October). The FYLSE is required of all law students who have completed their first year of law study at a school not accredited by the American Bar Association (ABA) or the State Bar. The baby bar consists of four essay questions and 100 multiple choice questions in the law areas of Contracts, Criminal Law (excluding Criminal Procedure), and Torts.
